Hiii I am currently studying in my final year of a fine art degree at Arts University College Bournemouth. I create extremely detailed drawings an installations, using the idea of scientific illustration, being influenced by the idea of perception. I look to create work based upon peoples opinions referencing the fact that a lot of early scientific illustrations were based upon one persons views, that were often highly inaccurate but yet were used as scientific references. The drawing highlight the idea that we always get closer in order to understand something. The images are a series od scientists inaccurate perceptions. I sent a scientist a drawing of magnified paper to identify. They wrongly assumed that the drawing was of skin, so i proceeded to draw skin, and so the series continued. The magic lantern was one of the earliest form of projectors and as used in lecture theatres within the 18th century about new scientific discoveries. I have created my own small slides of microscopic views of a variety of things using inked glass that is then scraped away to produce a fine detailed line. I have then projected these against a labelled back drop using my very own hand made magic lanterns!
